It is April 2019 and I'm about to quit my job, sell my house and sort-of retire at the grand ol' age of 48.  Most people spend their early 20's doing the backpack travel thing, but I didn't have the time or the money (or the internet to learn how easy it is) and so I'm doing it now. Knocking off countries one vacation at a time is frustrating and unsatisfying.  By the time you finally adjust to the time difference and get situated in a new area, its time to come home again. I want to travel, not vacation. I want to spend an entire day sitting under a tree reading a book if I want without stressing that I'm wasting time or messing up my itinerary.  I want to smell the roses. I want to see beyond the typical tourist fare and truly enjoy a country.  And pop a squat under a tree and read a book whenever the urge arises.
